Vitable QSEHRA vs. Group Plans
Group Plans
Frequently
Asked Questions
No. Reimbursements from your QSEHRA are not considered taxable income. They are tax-free for employees and tax-deductible for employers, making them a cost-effective way to offer health benefits. This is one of the most important financial advantages of an HRA.
Qualified expenses include individual insurance premiums, copays, prescriptions, mental health services, specialist visits, and more—based on IRS rules and your plan’s design. Vitable helps define and document what’s covered for your team.
Vitable guides each employee through their local Marketplace or off-exchange options. A licensed advisor will help them compare costs, check provider networks, and select a plan that fits their needs and budget. Employees get expert support, not a self-serve experience.
No. Employers offering a QSEHRA must provide the same benefit amount to all eligible employees within the same category. However, they are allowed to vary contributions based on family status (such as single vs. family coverage) or age, as long as the variation follows IRS guidelines and applies consistently. Unlike ICHRA, QSEHRA doesn’t allow employers to create custom employee classes or offer different reimbursement amounts based on job role, seniority, or individual discretion. This keeps the benefit fair, simple, and compliant for small businesses.
Small employers with under 50 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees are not subject to the ACA employer mandate. If your business grows beyond 50 FTEs, you would need to transition to a solution like ICHRA to remain compliant with ACA Applicable Large Employer (ALE) rules.
